About me:

Introduction

 I'm originally from Pittsburgh.  This is my 3rd time living in Charleston and I don't plan on leaving again.  I have a degree in Sports Management from Robert Morris University.  I was promotions director of a radio group here in Charleston.  We moved here from Chapin, SC 5 years ago.  This is my 4th year in garden club and am looking forward to many more.

Interests

 Biking, mountain biking, hiking, cooking, baking, gardening, Pittsburgh Penguin hockey, games, puzzles, party planning, friends and champagne.

Favorite Movies

 All Christmas movies, Gone with the Wind, Somewhere in Time, Pretty Woman, What About Bob (it makes me laugh)

Favorite Music

 Anything 80's and 90's. Alternative 80's & 90's and country and of course, anything and everything Darius Rucker/Hootie

Introduction

 I’ve been on Seabrook Island since 2003, full-time since 2017.  Lived in Spartanburg, SC, Atlanta, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.  I am a semi-retired librarian currently researching grant funding for clients.

Interests

 I'm an avid gardener.  I enjoy growing and collecting succulents and native plants and have almost completed a Certification in Native Plant Studies. I love to read and listen to books.

Favorite Movies

 I don’t watch a lot of movies, so I can’t say I have many favorites. I do like to watch webinars to learn new things.

Favorite Music

 I like to listen to a variety of music and love to listen to storytellers.

Introduction

 I was born in Charleston, grew up in South Carolina and spent most of my adult life in Summit, New Jersey with a short stent in New York City. I graduated from New York University with a degree in elementary education.  Having taught my 3 children everything I knew; I went to programming school instead of teaching school. I worked 22 years for Chubb Insurance managing I/T projects and programming staff. 

Interests

 Planting flowers on my deck and fiddling with house plants, Bible Study, knitting, beach walking, biking, fund raising projects for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, audio books

Favorite Movies

 Gone With the Wind, Groundhog Day, Mrs. Doubtfire and any romantic comedy

Favorite Music

 What a Wonderful World, contemporary Christian music and most of the 60s music

About me:

Introduction

I am Joyce Markwell and originally from New Castle, Pa. (about 1 hour north of Pittsburgh) I am 3rd of 6 children. My husband, Mark and I have been married for 37 years.
We moved to Seabrook 10 months ago from Greensboro NC. where we lived 36 years.  I have an undergraduate degree from Seton Hill College, in Greensburg, PA where I studied Textiles and Merchandising. My graduate degree is from University of North Carolina in Greensboro where I studied Textile Economics. I retired from a career in Apparel Merchandising for Lee and Wrangler denim brands.  Mark and I have 2 children. a son and a daughter. We love when they can visit us in Seabrook and they love it too!

Interests

 I enjoy cooking especially Italian foods. My mother was an Italian cook and baker. I enjoy baking Italian cookies and our Christmas holidays are always filled with lots of cooking and baking.  My husband and I love to travel the USA and internationally. I am a beginner golfer and love it so far.  Any sports events are enjoyed in our household.
I enjoy gardening and reading.

About me:

Introduction

  My husband and I retired here in 2018, after vacationing here since the 1970s.  I enjoyed a wonderful career in nursing, healthcare research administration and leadership in higher education.  Working with the Garden Club has been a terrific new adventure, allowing me to explore philanthropic needs of our area and to be with delightful people.                                                                                                                                                  

Interests

I love traveling, especially on small cruise ships, detective stories and doing needlepoint.  My husband paints seascapes and I continue to explore art with him.

 Anything with John Wayne

Favorite Music

 Operas, especially by Richard Wagner, traditional symphonies and the Boston Pops.

About me:

Introduction

 I am a pharmacist of 40 years, currently not practicing. I grew up near Athens, Ga, and I graduated from and subsequently taught at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy for 18 years.  We then lived in Richmond, VA for 20 years until my husband's retirement from VCU in July 2020, when we moved to SI permanently.  We have 2 children, and our daughter lives in West Ashley with our 2 grandchildren.                                                                                                                                                       

Interests

Golf, sailing, sewing for my granddaughter, cooking, enjoying new friends, and, of course, gardening!


Favorite Movies

 Gone with the Wind, Animal House.  Please don't judge.


Favorite Music

 Everything!  Except rap. I love jazz, old-school country, and classical.  Allman Brothers, Stevie Wonder, and Jon Batiste are some of my favorites.
